Training Programs
Western Regional Training Centre for Health Services Research (WRTC)
The Western Regional Training Centre for Health Services Research (WRTC) is an innovative and collaborative program designed to support the training of applied health services researchers across disciplines, sectors, and institutions, and equip them to address the research needs of a wide range of health-care policy makers. The WRTC is based at six universities in Western Canada: University of Alberta (UA), University of British Columbia (UBC), University of Calgary (UC), University of Manitoba (UM), University of Regina (UR), and University of Saskatchewan (US).
WRTC students have access to additional training opportunities and receive an annual stipend and travel support. Students can benefit greatly from attending the workshops, institutes, and seminars funded by the WRTC, as well as the annual conference of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR). Students can also gain unparalleled exposure to senior management and policy experts through practical field placements, which greatly enhance job opportunities following program completion. The training program is designed to attract students from a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds.
Graduate students (master or PhD) who are in a thesis program may participate in the program as full students or as affiliate students. A full WRTC student is one who has been accepted into either a master or PhD program in the School of Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan. An affiliate WRTC student is one who has been accepted into a master or PhD program in another academic unit at the University of Saskatchewan or at any other university in western Canada (excluding those units and universities already involved in the WRTC program).
