Dual Degree Program

St. Andrew’s College is unveiling a new program of study that represents a major development in  program offerings, continues St. Andrew’s leadership in Christian education and becomes a significant component in the United Church of Canada's God’s World Needs Leaders campaign.

“The new Dual Degree Program seeks to encourage students to theological study and ordained ministry and is particularly focused on attracting young people who are just beginning their post-secondary education to St. Andrew’s,” said College President Lorne Calvert.

It will enable students without post secondary education and students just coming out of high school to enroll at St. Andrew’s for a Bachelor of Theology. The Bachelor of Theology will include an integrated two years of general arts studies from the University and one year of theological studies from St. Andrew’s.

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Theology students will be granted one year of equivalency in the Master of Divinity program. Completion of the MDiv will then require just one further year of upper level theological study and our integrated 20-month ministry residency and five learning circles.

The Dual Degree Program will enable students to complete their academic and internship requirements for ordination in just over five and a half years, as opposed to the seven to nine years our traditional program requires. After a year of preparation our new program has received the accreditation of the Association of Theological Schools as an approved exemption to Education Standard ES.7.4.3.

To share the news of this new program option brochures and letters are being send to all of our alumni/ae, to all of the United Church pastoral charges in the three prairie Conferences, to Conference and Presbytery Education and Students Committees from British Columbia to Ontario, to our former Moderators, and to every high school guidance office in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

"We ask you to help share the news of this new pathway to ministry with any you may know who may be interested in theological study or sensing a call to ministry," Calvert said. "God’s world truly does need new leaders and we want to be a part of their journey to servant leadership!"
