 The Interdisciplinary Program in Toxicology is a joint program of the Toxicology Centre and four academic departments: Biology, Soil Science, Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, and Veterinary Pathology. The program has been designed to provide students with a basic understanding of how people, other biota and natural ecosystems function, how contaminants behave in the body and in the natural environment, how and by what mechanisms toxicants may adversely affect individuals, populations and ecosystems, and how to measure toxicants and their potential effects. The program consists of a core of toxicology, biology, and chemistry courses, with supplemental required courses from several other departments. Program C Requirements 2 through 5 of the College of Arts & Science must also be met. The program allows students to choose from a large number of electives so that they can focus, under the guidance of the Academic Advisor, their undergraduate program to emphasize either environmental toxicology or biomedical toxicology. On completion of the program, students receive a B.Sc. Four-year, or a B.Sc. Honours, degree depending on their academic standing.

New degree requirements (Distribution Requirements 1-5) for Type C programs are in effect September, 2005. Students currently in their second, third or fourth year of a Type C program may complete the old or the new degree requirements. Students commencing a Type C program in 2005 must follow the new Degree Requirements Chart and should refer to Distribution Requirements in the Arts & Science section of the Calendar for details.
