Our Story

The University Learning Centre opened in January 2007 creating a universal centre offering academic support to students on campus.  The Math and Stats Help Centre, The Writing Centre, as well as Community Service-Learning previously existed on campus and shifted to the ULC creating a “one stop shop” in the Murray Library Learning Commons. The unit was headed up by director Jim Greer who was also the director for The Gwenna Moss Centre For Teaching Effectiveness.   The two units work together to support teaching and learning at the U of S.

Shortly after the unit began, additional staff members joined to develop online support as well as the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Program. This signature program began with 20 peer mentors in September 2007 and grew each year.
