Project Serve: a day in the life.
On Saturday morning (don’t worry, not too early – just at 10:00 a.m.) we meet on campus. You’ll enter the room following the scent of coffee, tea, and …let’s say muffins, set out for you to enjoy while you mingle. After getting to know each other a bit, we chat about the day’s events and schedule. Soon after, you grab your bagged lunch, hop on the big yellow school bus, and then were off to our placements!
In the early afternoon, after spending time with your community organization (which you get to select from a list we’ll give you later – we pick from your top three), the bus comes to get you and we all head back to campus together.
Back in the classroom, we discuss the day’s adventures – who went where and did what – over afternoon snacks. After that? Well, you’re free to go as of 5:00 p.m.… but you could stick around and enjoy the optional, free, and awesome BBQ!
The day’s program finishes and you go home, secure in the knowledge that you’ve just met some great people, gotten to know a bit more about our community and the ways you can get involved, and built up experience for your resumé.
It’s a beautiful day, eh?
Questions?
See if your question is answered here. If not, just email us at service-learning@usask.ca and we’ll do our best to answer your question as soon as possible.
"Who can participate?"
Any U of S student can register! But registration is closed for this year :)
"How are participants chosen?"
Student participants are selected as they register – first come, first served.
"How much does it cost?"
It is all FREE, with set snacks and lunch, and transportation provided to and from the community placement.
"What kinds of things will we do?"
Well, it really varies based on the organization you choose. A list of community organizations and their projects is coming soon! :)
"Are there other ways to get involved with these organizations?"
There are loads of ways to get involved! Some of these ways are also through the University Learning Centre. Click here for more information on our similar programming. You can also visit Volunteer Saskatoon's website for the latest opportunities with organizations in and around the city.
Registration Information:
All that you need to do to register is fill out an online form with a bit of information about you, using your NSID (your personal 'abc123' code) to access the form. Remember, participants for Project Serve are selected as they register – so the earlier you register, the better chance you have of being a part of this project (space is limited).
Ready to register? Well, you can join us next year - registration will open in the summer!
If, at any time, you have questions or comments, please feel welcome to email us at service-learning@usask.ca.
If you are a community partner that would like to be a part of this program, please just email us for information on upcoming programs:).
See you next year :D
