At the University of Saskatchewan, an Interest-Based Learning Community is a small group of undergraduate students (10-30) who wish to connect their academic and personal interests to their local and global communities. Students gather in a weekly LC Hour guided by two Peer Mentors and together explore the dynamic potential of their common interests ( for example, global experience through study abroad, exploring scholarship through undergraduate research opportunities, increasing sustainability through the campus community, etc.).
Weekly LC Hours aim to (a) connect academic experience with personal interests (b) build a sense of community within, between and beyond students with common interests, and (c) facilitate student development. Each LC develops a unique character of its own, and each student draws on the strength of the whole.
