How do I go about writing a good thesis statement?
It has to be debatable, it has to be defensible, and it has to be assertive. It has to be making a claim about the text. So, there are many interesting points in relation to 'whatever' in the book, [but] that's not a thesis statement. You need to be making an assertion that somebody might conceivably disagree with, but obviously there has to be evidence to substantiate your view as well. Then you have something to teach your reader (your audience).
