RECOMMENDATION

To: University Council

Date: Dec. 16, 1999

Re: College of Arts and Science Program changes to Physics programs

Summary of proposal:
Replace EP 225 requirement with EP 271
Require CMPT 116.3

Rationale:
The requirement for EP 271 will improve coverage of thermodynamics and statistical physics for both Physics and Engineering Physics students. Additional changes to third and fourth year requirements will be made next year
Students in Physics have the same computer programming needs as Engineering students. The use of C++ in CMPT 116 makes this course the most useful one for students in physics.

Impact and Relationships:
Computer Science has indicated it can accommodate Physics majors in CMPT 116. See attached letter.

Additional resources required:
None.
