UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN COUNCIL
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

REQUEST FOR DECISION

PRESENTED BY:
Bob Lucas, Chair, Academic Programs Committee

DATE OF MEETING: April 18, 2002

SUBJECT: Minor in History

DECISION REQUESTED:
That the Minor in History be approved.

SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL:
A Minor in History requires 24 credit units in History courses, including 6 credit units of 100-level History and 18 credit units of senior-level history, of which 6 credit units of coursework at the senior level must have a terminal date of 1815 or earlier.

RATIONALE:
The Minor in History is being proposed due to student demand for recognition of interest in history. It will allow students to complement their major or honours program with the study of history. The requirement for one or two courses in pre-modern history (before the fall of Napoleon) is similar to History major and honours requirements.

IMPACT AND RELATIONSHIPS:
No changes are required to programs in other departments.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES REQUIRED:
None.

COMMITTEE COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATION:
Proposal received on March 14, 2002.

Academic Programs Committee: recommend approval (April 4, 2002).
