COUNCIL ACTION: For information only

1. Additional tests for demonstrating English proficiency.
Student and Enrolment Services requested that additional tests for proof of English language proficiency be accepted for admission. See the attached memo.

At its Feb. 24 meeting, the Academic Programs Committee approved three additional tests:
- Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment score of 60 or higher
- University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) with a grade of C or higher
- Advanced Level (ESL 050) of the University of Reginas Intensive English as a Second Language program plus completion of Academic Writing Elective A

In view of the universitys interest in expanding its cohort of international students, the Committee also asked Student and Enrolment Services to investigate the adequacy of all of the Universitys English proficiency tests, including surveying deans to develop a list of any concerns about English proficiency, and report back to APC by the end of May.

2. Program Workshop update.
The first Program Workshop for Colleges and Departments was held on February 7, sponsored by the Academic Programs Committee, the Planning Committee, and the Budget Committee. About 40 faculty attended to discuss the procedures for development and approval of programs. It is intended to hold this workshop annually to assist departments which are developing proposals for new or revised programs.
