AGENDA ITEM NO:

UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
PLANNING COMMITTEE
REQUEST FOR DECISION

PRESENTED BY:          Beth Bilson, Chair, Planning Committee

DATE OF MEETING:    March 16, 2006

SUBJECT:                       Deletion of program:  M.Sc. in Marketing

DECISION REQUESTED:

That Council approve the deletion of the Master of Science in Marketing.

IMPACT AND RELATIONSHIPS:

Admissions to the program have been suspended by the College.  Presently, no students are enrolled in the program.

COMMITTEE COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATION:

In 2002, the M.Sc. in Marketing received a D rating in the SPR assessment of Commerce programs.  As outlined in the Systematic Program Review Policy and Procedures, the program was therefore referred to the Program Termination Subcommittee for consideration of program termination.  On March 6, 2006, the Planning Committee carried a motion to recommend to Council that the M.Sc. in Marketing be terminated.

The College of Commerce is presently developing a proposal for a new M.Sc. program within Management and Marketing.  As the proposed M.Sc. will depart significantly from the present program, approval as a new program will be sought.
