Update on Elections 2012

The January 10 call for nominations for Council members resulted in 17 nominations for 24 vacancies. Those 27 members have been declared elected by acclamation. Seven unfilled vacancies remain.

On behalf of Council I invite members of the General Academic Assembly to consider standing for these positions. Nominations should be sent to the Office of the University Secretary, 212 College Building not later than Friday, March 2. You may also fax your nomination to 966-4530.

Faculty participation in Council is vitally important for the effective governance of the institution, and provides an opportunity for influencing the direction of our university. We encourage you to consider allowing your name to stand.

University Council Elections for Member at Large 2012

The election of faculty members to University Council will be held to replace those members whose terms on the current Council expire on June 30, 2012. 

The term of office for the following 21 Council members at large expire this June.  They are all eligible for re-election.

There is also 2 one-year terms and 1 two-year term positions vacant at the present time.

Council bylaws state that annual elections for Council be completed by March 31.  Nominations will consist of a member’s written indication of eligibility and willingness to stand for election.  Nominations need be signed only by the member standing for election.

The University of Saskatchewan Act, 1995 defines a faculty member as "a person who is employed on a full-time basis by the university or an affiliated or federated college and who serves as a professor, associate professor, assistant professor, lecturer, full-time special lecturer, full-time instructor, librarian or extension specialist".

 In accordance with past practice "full time" will encompass faculty members and librarians who have continuing appointments.

 University Council is responsible for overseeing and directing the university’s academic affairs.  Your participation by nominating a colleague or by standing for election is essential to the continuing good governance of the institution.

 If you wish to stand as a candidate for election to University Council, would you please complete and return the nomination form to my office by [Friday, March 2, 2012.]  I also ask that you send a brief statement in which you introduce yourself and communicate your reasons for wanting to stand for election to council.  This information will be made available to all voters to assist them in their choice of candidates.  A list of current council members is available  here

Voting will once again be conducted through PAWS, once the deadline date for nominations has passed.  You will be notified by e-mail when the elections channel is open.
