Pandemic Preparedness at the University of Saskatchewan:
The University of Saskatchewan has developed a university-wide approach to pandemic H1N1 influenza planning and response, complete with a structure, parameters and methodology.
The university’s pandemic preparedness approach, like that of many organizations, is tied to the decisions made by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO has developed a global influenza preparedness plan and is the organization with primary responsibility for:
- monitoring the status of pandemic influenza across the world
- advising national authorities on a course of action in an influenza pandemic
On a local level, the University of Saskatchewan acts in accordance with direction from public health authorities and works closely with the Saskatoon Health Region to monitor the status of the H1N1 flu virus.
University of Saskatchewan college specific and administrative unit specific pandemic plans, currently under development, will complement the institutional plan.
