Who will I meet at the VMC?

Since this is a veterinary teaching hospital, a team of caregivers will meet you and your animal when you arrive at the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre. Your animal's clinical team may include:

  • a supervising veterinarian on faculty at the VMC
  • a veterinarian who is gaining experience in a clinical specialty area as a clinical intern or a resident
  • a fourth-year veterinary student who is preparing for graduation
  • certified veterinary technologists.
My veterinarian referred my animal to the VMC. What do I need to do?

If you are a client who has been referred to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre, please call the appropriate clinic reception area (see above contact information) to schedule an appointment in advance.

Please bring along referral instructions and any pertinent records from your veterinarian.

How long will an appointment at the veterinary medical centre take?

Plan for your visit to take longer than an appointment with a private veterinarian. Since our facility is a veterinary teaching hospital, a senior veterinary student will complete an initial examination of your animal before you see the veterinarian.

How much information will I receive during and after the visit?

The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre's clinical team that is assigned to your case will explain:

  • your animal’s condition
  • treatment recommendations
  • your animal's prognosis
  • charges for treatment and other services so you can make an informed choice about your animal's health care. The clinical team will provide you with an estimate of the cost, and the VMC will request a deposit.

The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre's clinical team will also keep your regular veterinarian informed about diagnostic findings, decisions and discharge information.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

If you can not keep your original appointment, please make sure to call the appropriate reception area to reschedule or cancel so the hospital’s clinical team can plan to see another case in your place.
