    Dr. Claire Card is a board-certified specialist in theriogenology (reproductive medicine) at the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC).

    Dr. Card’s clinical practice involves large animal, small animal, game farm and wild animal species. She is one of three theriogenologists who provide clinical services in the VMC’s Large Animal Clinic. She is widely recognized for her work in equine reproduction.

    Originally from Adams, N.Y., Dr. Card received her BSc and DVM degrees as well as her PhD degree (physiology) from Cornell University. After completing a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in 1990, she spent a year working at Cornell University’s Large Animal Clinic. She is a board-certified diplomate and a past president of the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT).

    Dr. Card joined the WCVM faculty in 1991 and is a professor in the veterinary college’s Large Animal Clinical Sciences.

    Dr. Card’s research interests include equine endometritis, equine maternal recognition of pregnancy, assisted reproductive techniques, hormone therapy, chronic infectious diseases, and ecohealth approaches to development.
