    Dr. Tammy Owens is a board-certified specialist in small animal clinical nutrition who works mainly with dogs and cats. Her clinical interests include:

    • clinical management of nutritionally-responsive diseases
    • well-pet nutrition
    • nutritional support for hospitalized or chronically ill patients to improve outcome and quality of life
    • customized home-cooked diet formulations for pets

    Dr. Owens grew up in the United States and attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2009, Dr. Owens went on to complete a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Mississippi State University.

    Following the internship, Dr. Owens worked at a private specialty hospital in Tucson, Arizona, as an emergency veterinarian for two years. During this time, she became interested in the role of nutritional support in improving patient outcome. To learn more, Dr. Owens began a residency in small animal clinical nutrition at UC-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. After completing her residency in 2014, she joined the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology at UC Davis as a master’s student.

    Dr. Owens moved to Saskatoon with a small herd of cats. She enjoys reading, museums, trying new foods and exploring new places.
