Q. How do I refer a non-emergency patient to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre?
Please ask your client to schedule an appointment with one of the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre's clinical services during regular clinic hours.
Q. What information do I need to provide the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre?
You must fill out the appropriate WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre Referral Form for your client and your referred patient. Please click on the following links to download the correct referral form:
Please give the completed form to your client before the scheduled appointment or fax the completed form to the appropriate clinical service (visit Making an Appointment for fax numbers). As a referring veterinarian, you will receive a final written report after the case is discharged.
Q. How do I refer an emergency case to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre?
If a referred patient is an emergency case, please send your patient and client on their way to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre. Next, please call the appropriate clinic reception area to provide more details and the client’s estimated arrival time.
If your emergency patient is a small animal case, please ask the WCVM Small Animal Clinic receptionist or operator for access to an unpublished referral line that will enable you to reach a hospital representative more quickly. Please do not distribute or publish this contact number since it’s essential to keep the line free for emergency referral situations.
If a specialty clinician is unavailable, referred emergency patients will be accepted by a clinical intern or a resident under the supervision of the senior clinician on duty. As a referring veterinarian, you will receive a final written report after the case is discharged.
Q. Can I arrange to have a specific WCVM faculty member see my referral case?
The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre is staffed by faculty who also have teaching, research and additional responsibilities. As a result, referral cases must be seen by the clinicians on duty rather than by a specific faculty member. This is the case even if you have spoken to a specific faculty member and they have encouraged you to refer the case to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre.
Q. Where is the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre located?
The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre is located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Visit a map showing the location of the hospital on the U of S campus:
