Nutrition

The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre's Nutrition Service is available to clients and veterinarians through the Small Animal Clinic and Large Animal Clinic. The service offers:

•    nutritional consulting for veterinarians and animal owners
•    investigation of alternatives to conventional diets for pets and animals
•    information about nutritional aspects of disease (for veterinary discussion)
•    assistance in developing rations for pets, horses and livestock.

Making an Appointment

If you would like assistance in feeding your pet or setting up rations for livestock or horses, you can schedule an appointment by:

• contacting Dr. Meg Smart (306-966-7100 or meg.smart@usask.ca)
• contacting the Small Animal Clinic (306-966-7126) or the Large Animal Clinic (306-966-7178).

Appointments are regularly scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. If your animal is a patient of the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre, Dr. Smart will alert the attending veterinarian before meeting with you. If Dr. Smart suspects an associated medical problem, she will refer your animal to the appropriate clinician.

Additional Services

• Available to WCVM clinicians and western Canadian veterinarians as a nutritional consultant.
• Available to attend any rounds where the nutritional aspects of a disease will be discussed.
• Available to help clients who are looking for alternatives to conventional diets or whose pet refuses to eat prescription diets.

Fee for Service

• A regular examination fee of $50.00 will be charged for an appointment, telephone call or email message. A consultation with a regular WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre client will be complimentary to that service and be included in the fees charged by that service.
• Formulation of a special diet will be $25.00 to $100.00 if it is not associated with an in-clinic patient. The client will be billed through the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre.
