In October 2006 we started the research project "ProZoo - Research project for a successful management of Austrian pet shops in the sense of animal welfare". Three days of international presentations and posters will follow the Merial Meeting which begins June 15th to end on the 17th morning with a behaviour session. This will be the MAJOR veterinary behaviour event of the year and we hope that many people will be there. The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to 1 January 2007 in order to allow more people to submit their papers, so please think about attending what promises to be a fantastic few days of behaviour medicine. This promises to be a very exciting event and it would be great to see as many delegates from as many countries as possible. The preliminary programme for the event will be available on the congress website at http://www.etologia.it. The deadline for early registration is April 7th 2007 and the application form will be available soon on the website http://www.etologia.it together with information about how to book accommodation in Riccione. Call for papers Scientists and practitioners from all related disciplines are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration. These may be in the form of original (unpublished) research results, case studies or scientific reviews. Final presentations will be in the form of oral presentation and poster. Speakers of oral presentations will receive complementary registration for the conference. The deadline for submission of abstracts is January 1, 2007. Abstracts should be e-mailed as an attachment to ivbm2007@etologia.it. Please use Microsoft Word for Windows when submitting an Abstract. Accepted contributed oral presentations will be of 20 minutes duration plus 10 minutes for questions. No anonymous abstracts will be accepted. Participants will be notified by 1 February 2007 of the selections. Manuscripts will then be due no later than 1 March 2007. Details will be included with notification. All submissions will be triple reviewed anonymously. Each paper will be evaluated according to both its scientific merit (see guidelines below for different types of submission), originality and interest to the discipline. All papers meeting the threshold of acceptability will then be considered according to the following selection criteria Outstanding scientific merit Originality / Interest Speaker and topic diversity The committee is not responsible for abstracts not received due to improper submission. The primary heading should draw on the following: Title, Introduction (to include the aim of the presentation), Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion. No References are requested at this stage. Please do not submit abstracts if you will not be in attendance at the meeting. In order to balance the program, the Scientific Committee may limit the number of presentations given by a single individual. General information Language The language of the symposium will be English. There will be simultaneous translation into Italian. Visas A visa for entry in Italy may be required for participants from some countries. It takes from a few days to two months to process a visa application, you should therefore apply for a visa as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. You are advised to contact the nearest Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country.
