Teaching and Research Responsibilities:
Dr. Adams teaches anatomy in the veterinary curriculum and reproductive physiology in the graduate student program. He has broad interests in basic and applied aspects of reproductive science and medicine, and is recognized internationally for his work in ovarian function and follicular dynamics using the bovine model. Comparative studies on the cellular and biochemical kinetics of follicle development in this and other species (horses, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, guanaco, elephant, rhinoceros, giraffe, camel, muskoxen, deer, elk, moose, monkey, and humans) have helped elucidate the mechanisms of ovarian follicle recruitment and selection, and the effects of age (reproductive pubescence and senescence) on these mechanisms. His current research activities involve characterization of reproductive events in wapiti and white-tailed deer, ovulation-inducing factors in llamas and alpacas, factors influencing oocyte competence in cattle, and synchrotron-based biomedical imaging of reproductive tissues.
