Professor Haigh's Extension Notes
In the early days of the game farming industries, Dr. Jerry Haigh was a professor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada. He was already recognized as a significant contributor to international zoological and wildlife medicine and, in the early 1980's he became one of the original members of the Canadian deer and elk industry. He and his wife owned and operated Marimba Farms near Saskatoon, raising elk and the occasional deer. As part of his work at the WCVM, Jerry created a series of extension notes on the practice of game farming and used much of the material in a book he co-authored in 1993 with Dr. Bob Hudson from the University of Alberta. The publication of "Farming Wapiti and Red Deer" consolidated his position as an international veterinary authority on cervid medicine.
