When the need for a regional veterinary college in Western Canada became critical in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it was a diverse group of people, organizations and industries that galvanized federal and provincial backing for the new institution.
Their concerted efforts eventually led to the establishment of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan — a regional centre for veterinary education, expertise and research.
Grassroots support for our veterinary college continues to be one of our major strengths, and we're very proud of the close ties that exist between WCVM and many western Canadians — including the 2,500-plus graduates of our College.
As WCVM grows, so has the support of our stakeholders. For more than four decades, our donors have contributed toward various initiatives that have enhanced our College's education, research and clinical programs.
In the past few years, many of our donors have dug even deeper to support the multi-phase expansion and renovation of WCVM's facilities — a major project that is the veritable foundation for the College's future.
The "let's get it done" approach of our supporters continues to encourage all of us at the College. We're extremely grateful for your commitment to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine's future.
But perhaps what's most inspiring is that despite the passing of time, generations and issues, people across Western Canada still firmly believe in the vital role that WCVM plays in their lives. Estimating the value of that kind of endorsement is impossible — but what we can say is that your support truly means the world to all of us at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
