Referral Policy

Because the Teaching Hospital is staffed by faculty who also have teaching, research and additional responsibilities, referrals will be seen by the clinicians on duty rather than by a specific faculty member. This is the case even if you have spoken to a specific faculty member and they have encouraged you to refer the case to us.

All referrals should have a booked appointment with one of our services. If a referral is an emergency, send your client on their way, and then call us to let us know details and the arrival time.

If a specialty clinician is unavailable, emergency referrals will be accepted by an intern or resident under the supervision of the senior clinician on duty.

As a referring veterinarian, you will receive a final written report after the case is discharged.

All referrals should be accompanied by a completed Referral Form. If you choose, this form may be faxed to the Large Animal reception area before the client arrives. The following referral forms may be downloaded:
Medical Surgical Form
Ophthalmology Form
Medical Imaging Consultation Form

Consultations on referral radiographs is available through the Medical Imaging Department. Fees for this service must be paid in Canadian Funds. Radiographs and requests should be forwarded to:
