Dr. Hendrick worked in rural veterinary practices in Ontario for a year until he returned to the University of Guelph and completed a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree in 2005.
In 2005, Dr. Hendrick became a new faculty member at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. He is actively involved in the Field Service practice of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Teaching and Clinical Areas
Dr. Hendrick is a clinician in the WCVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital's Field Service and participates in the WCVM Disease Investigation Unit.
Dr. Hendrick's general research interest is the epidemiology of infectious diseases in cow-calf and feedlot operations. As a graduate student, Dr. Hendrick studied several aspects of paratuberculosis (Johne's disease) in dairy cattle. This research entailed an evaluation of a commercial milk ELISA; an estimation of the impact of paratuberculosis on milk production, milk quality and risk of being culled; and a measure of the effect of monensin sodium (Rumensin) on the fecal shedding of M. paratuberculosis
in dairy cattle. Future research in the area of paratuberculosis will focus on cow-calf herds in Western Canada.
