Dr. Lyall Petrie graduated from the University of Glasgow Veterinary School in 1969. He was appointed lecturer in Large Animal Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow, in 1973. He completed a PhD in 1980 on "Factors affecting neonatal calf survival and subsequent growth rate." He joined the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985.

Dr. Petrie's current research interests include neonatal calf diarrhea and bovine lameness and problems of the bovine hoof.
