What is the mandate for UWEBD?

The mandate of the University Web Developers' Mailing List is to provide a discussion forum for people responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a web site for a higher education institution such as a University. Any topic related to this audience is allowed, including technical web development and site design questions, inquiries about administrative policies at various institutions, training and conference information, useful support tools, etc.

What is the history of the list?

The list was originally created by Andy Dennee of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, USA. He maintained the list on a listserver at muohio.edu. In early 2000, Andy passed the torch on to Terry Calhoun at the University of Michigan and the list moved to umich.edu. At the time there were over 650 subscribers to the list from all over the world.

How Many People are On the List

As of March 2002 there were 1,137 members on the list. In May of 2004 there were 1,678 people on the list.

How do I Subscribe to the List?

Subscriptions to the UWEBD mailing list can be done through the University of Michigan Lyris Web Site. When you visit this site, you can select the "Join uwebd" button to become a member of the list.

What should I do if I have problems with my subscription?

Make Web-based changes or subscribe/unsubscribe at: http://listserver.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=uwebd&text_mode=0. If you experience problems, contact list owner Terry Calhoun at splendid@umich.edu.

What are my options for using the list?

Registered list members can use the above site to access an account maintenance menu. This menu lets you create new messages, read archives of existing messages, unsubscribe from the list, or change your subscription settings. These settings include your e-mail address, password, and how you want to receive messages (as they come or in a digest), etc.

Is there an archive of messages sent to the list?

There is no public archive of the messages posted to the list. However, registered list members can use their username and password on the above site to access an archive of messages posted to the list since it was moved to the University of Michigan.
