Competition Details

The I3 Idea Challenge gives student interested in starting their own business the opportunity to develop their business idea in a collaborative, supportive and competitive environment.  Participants compete for cash, mentoring, and other professional services to get their business up and running. 

Prizes for the top 3 winners include $10,000 cash and over $75,000 in professional services.

How It Works

1) Optional workshops will be held leading up to the i3 Idea Challenge Deadline

2)  Submit a 3 minute video pitch and a 3 page summary of your business idea: 

  • Title page: All team members & contact info
  • Introduction: Roles & skills of each individual
  • Summary of the Business Idea: Clear & concise explanation
  • Industry Overview: What is the demand for your product/service
  • Marketing: target market & 4 P’s (product, place, price, promotion)
  • Financing: Initial start-up costs and how you plan to cover them
  • Conclusion: Next Steps your business will be taking
  • References
  • Appendices (optional) 

3)  The top 11 will be narrowed down by a panel of judges and announced on May 1st, 2012.

4)  The top 11 will present their pitches May 10th at the i3 Idea Launch and top 3 winners will be announced.

Rules

  • Submissions must be no longer than 3 pages (excluding cover page, references  & appendices)
  • Submissions must be 11pt font, single space, standard margins
  • Must have at least one U of S student per team (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Groups cannot exceed 4 people per team
  • Contest capacity: The first 50 full submissions received will be eligible for the competition
  • All entries must be submitted electronically to: info_wilsoncentre@usask.ca
  • Late submissions will not be accepted

Prizes

First Place: $5,000 Cash

Second Place: $3,000 Cash

Third Place: $2,000 Cash

In kind services for the top 3 include: accounting services, legal services, office space, printing services, strategic planning, graphic design, web design, and mentorship
