  1. Go to the Finder.
  2. Click on the Go tab.
  3. In the drop-down menu, click on the Connect to Server link.
    mac go menu
  4. Type in your share name in the field for server name. Note that depending on your version of the Mac OSX operating system, The server address is:

(Where SHARENAME is replaced by the share's name. Use smb: as your first choice.)

  1. Use your NSID and password to log in.

Off-campus Access

  1. If you are accessing the share from off campus, you will require the use of the university's VPN to connect to the campus network.
  2. When you are connected to the campus network, follow the normal procedure. Ensure the server name is in full “”.

The share can also be accessed as a file repository, for downloading and uploading files, through the secure FTP protocol. A commonly used program for this is WinSCP.

This does not permit editing the files in place on DataShare, and you do require the VPN to use this.

There is a more transparent method of access that requires neither VPN nor SFTP access, but may require Windows VISTA or Windows 7 operating systems. This can be accessed using the off-campus file service gateway (Windows, Mac) using the network location

and replacing sharename as appropriate.

No further changes can be made to DataShare. For assistance, please contact  Research Computing.
