Message from Bruce Coulman, Head, Plant Sciences Department, University of Saskatchewan

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Plant Sciences of the University of Saskatchewan, I would like to welcome members of the Canadian Society of Agronomy (CSA), Canadian Society for Horticultural Science (CSHS) and the Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) to the “Adapting Crops to Change” Conference being held on our Campus.  The crops industry in Canada has had several productive and profitable years, but challenges such as climate variability and new crop protection problems must be addressed.  The scientific program at this conference will provide important information towards meeting these challenges.

Faculty members in our department have had a long history of active involvement in the CSA and CSHS, and many have been involved in the organization of this conference.  Our department has major field and horticultural crop production and improvement programs and we are pleased that you will have the opportunity to view them in the tours of our field research facilities.   We also trust that members of the North American Fruit Growers will enjoy the activities that have been planned for you.

In addition to attending the conference sessions and tours, we hope that you will take the time to enjoy our great summer weather and beautiful campus.  Saskatoon hosts a number of summer festivals so please also take the opportunity to enjoy some great entertainment.
