The U Of S Advantage

Affordable tuition, diverse program selection, excellent research opportunities, an amazing campus, awesome athletics, great clubs and organizations, and successful alumni all over the world, combine to make the University of Saskatchewan one of the best places in the world to work and to study.

A Beautiful Campus...

The University of Saskatchewan is widely renowned for its striking collegiate gothic architecture. With its traditional greystone buildings, majestic elm trees and magnificent river view, the University of Saskatchewan is one of Canada's most beautiful campuses.

Expanding And Enhancing Facilities...

State-of-the-art Laboratories, Lecture Theatres And Classrooms, And World-class Research Facilities -- The University Of Saskatchewan Has Welcomed Some Major Construction Projects Over The Last Several Years And The Ground Breaking Continues.

The Chemical Engineering addition to the Engineering building is expected to be completed in May 2002. A pilot plant that allows simulation of processes used in industry is a major element of this addition.

Already under construction, the elaborate 1924 collegiate gothic style Thorvaldson Building's Spinks Addition will house the Departments of Computer Science and Chemistry. Another component of the project -- the Thorvaldson Annex -- will create space for, among others, the Saskatchewan Structural Science Centre.

The College Building, designated both a National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage Building, is a premier example of collegiate gothic architecture. Partial funding has been secured to restore this cherished campus landmark to its former glory.

Construction of a new three-story Kinesiology Building is underway -- expected to be ready for teaching, research, recreation and athletics by August 2003. Features include state-of-the-art research facilities, a triple gym with seating for 2,500, an elevated walking and jogging track, renovated and expanded locker and shower areas to serve both the new building and the existing pool facility, a 14,000 square foot fitness centre and a rock-climbing wall in the main foyer.

At the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, completion of a 3,961 square foot addition to house a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit and cobalt radiation therapy equipment is expected by year's end, making it the only veterinary teaching hospital in Canada with an MRI dedicated to pets and the only facility in western Canada able to provide radiation therapy for animal cancer patients.

The University of Saskatchewan Students' Union is moving ahead with plans to renovate the Memorial Union Building and Place Riel with upgrades to Louis' Pub and Browsers used bookstore and cyber-cafe also identified as priorities.

Class Size...

With more than half of all first- and second-year classes enrolling 25 or fewer students, class size is one of the University of Saskatchewan's most impressive selling features. Almost 80% of first- and second-year classes have 50 or fewer students, while only 6.8% have more than 100 students enrolled.

Excellent Student Services...

At the U of S we want to ensure that your educational experience is as positive as possible. Whether you need information or advice about a personal, career or academic issue, look no further than the student support services offered here.

Recognizing the unique needs of Aboriginal students, the University is committed to providing services and programs designed to foster an environment where Aboriginal students feel welcome and where they can flourish and fulfill their academic and career goals.

Research Intensifies...

The University of Saskatchewan has a proud reputation as a global leader in research, annually attracting over $100 million in research revenues.

Construction of the Canadian Light Source (CLS), Canada's only synchrotron radiation facility, is well underway. Expected to begin operation in 2004, the CLS is transforming the University of Saskatchewan's status as a centre of research. In fact, more than 2,000 researchers from around Canada and the world are expected to visit the University annually once the CLS is fully operational. In addition, the CLS will be a magnet for bright young Canadians interested in research, attracting academics and students in a variety of disciplines, including agriculture, biochemistry, chemistry, electronics, geology, materials, medicine, pharmacology and physics.

Huskie Athletes Excel...

Every year over 300 students take on the challenge of being part of Huskie Athletics as athletes, student trainers, team managers and game staff. Huskie Athletics teams compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) organization in 15 sports, providing an exciting opportunity to watch Canada's best amateur athletes in action.

Choice And Affordability...

Chances are that if there is a program that especially interests you, the University of Saskatchewan offers it. With thirteen colleges and over one hundred areas of study, there are few universities in North America that offer the choice of programs available at the University of Saskatchewan.

Tuition rates at the University of Saskatchewan are comparable with other institutions in Canada and the cost of living in Saskatoon is very reasonable.
