Acquaints the student with contemporary social and cultural variation. The basic mechanisms of society and culture will be explained within a comparative framework.
Note: Students with previous credit for ANTH 110 may not take this course for credit.

Prerequisite(s): ANTH 111 or completion of 30 credit units at the university, including an introductory social science.
Broadly considers society and culture in eastern and central Europe, the relation of the region today to both the socialist and pre-socialist pasts. Explores how ethnography as a key research tool helps to account for sociocultural changes in the region since the late 1980s.
Note: Students with credit for ANTH 298 Cultures of Central and Eastern Europe may not take this course for credit.
