Examinations
Unless a college has decided otherwise, a final examination will be given in each course. Students (except those auditing courses) are required to write the final examination in order to obtain credit for a course.
Final examinations are
scheduled by Examinations, Academic Services and Financial Assistance. Final examinations may be scheduled at any time during the examination period; students should therefore avoid making prior travel, employment, or other commitments for this period.
Students are required to bring suitable identification to the final examination. Suitable identification is a Student I.D. Card or an alternative picture I.D.
When registering for classes in the Spring & Summer Terms students should carefully note the examination slot assigned to a class (e.g., E1, E2, etc.). Students cannot register for courses having the same examination slot.
No changes will be permitted to the examination dates noted in the Spring and Summer final examination schedule. Students should regard registration as a commitment to accept final examination dates.
Complete examination regulations are published in the
University Council Regulations on Examinations, Examinations & Grading section of the
Calendar and on the
web.
College Regulations on Examinations are available in the college offices.

Supplemental Examinations
A student who fails an examination may be granted a supplemental examination under regulations established by each college. Students in Open Studies are not eligible for supplemental examinations. Formal request for permission to write a supplemental examination must be made to most colleges by the fourth Wednesday in May. Supplemental examinations are written in August.
The college may, by special action, grant a special supplemental examination to a student who submits satisfactory evidence of inability to be present at the August examinations.
For Spring and Summer Terms Supplemental Examinations, the deadline for application to the college concerned is approximately two weeks after official examination results are released; however, students should check with individual colleges for specific deadlines.
Deferred Examinations
A student who is absent from a final examination through no fault of his or her own, for medical or other valid reasons, may apply to the college in which they are registered for a deferred examination. Students in Open Studies apply to Open Studies Advising, Student & Enrolment Services Division.
Such application must be made within three days of the missed examination and be accompanied by supporting documentary evidence. Deferred examinations are written during the February mid-term break for Fall Term 1 courses, in early June for Winter Term 2 and Fall and Winter two-term courses, in late August for Spring Term 1 courses, and in September for Summer Term 2 and Spring and Summer two-term courses. A college or Open Studies Advising may, under extenuating circumstances, grant a special deferred examination to a student who submits satisfactory evidence of inability to be present at the regular deferred examination sitting.
