USSU Student Health & Dental Plan for Undergraduate Students

As members of the University of Saskatchewan Student’s Union, one of the privileges students enjoy is access to affordable health and dental services not covered by Saskatchewan Health. In 2001, students voted in favour of the USSU Health & Dental Plan by referendum. All full-time, on-campus undergraduate students (enrolled in 18 credit units) who are USSU members are automatically enrolled, and the cost of the Plan is part of student fees. Part-time students, off-campus students, students registered in Term 2 only and students who register after the course change deadline are not automatically covered but may enrol on specific dates early in the term. For information: www.studentcare.net, 306-933-0093 or Toll-free 1-877-795-4428.

Students should ensure that they consult with their parents, spouse, or employer to discover the extent of any health coverage they currently receive. It may be possible to combine another extended health plan with the USSU Plan for more complete coverage; or, students may may wish to opt out of the USSU Health & Dental Plan.

Change of Coverage
The USSU Health & Dental Plan gives students the option to enrol their family (spouse and/or dependants) by completing a form and paying an additional fee, over and above the fee as a member of the USSU. Common Law and same sex couples are eligible. Enrolments must be completed during the Change-of-Coverage period at the beginning of September. Only new Term 2 students can enrol themselves or their family during the Winter Change-of-Coverage Period, for coverage from January 1 to August 31, 2004.

Those students who are already covered by an equivalent health and/or dental plan, can opt out and receive a credit to their student account for the amount of the Plan.  Opt outs must be completed during the Change-of-Coverage period at the beginning of September. Students can only opt out of the Health Plan upon showing proof of equivalent health coverage. Similarly, students can only opt out of the Dental Plan with proof of other equivalent dental coverage. For information: www.studentcare.net, Tel: 306-933-0093 or Toll-free 1-877-795-4428.

Graduate students are covered under a seperate plan and should refer to the Graduate Studies & Research section of the Calendar or contact the Graduate Students' Assocation for details.
