Statistics Course Regulations
Introductory courses in statistics eligible for Arts and Science credit are to be selected as follows:
One of:
a. PLSC 314.3, GE 210.3, STAT 242.3, STAT 245.3, STAT 246.3
Or one from (b) and (c)
b. COMM 104.3, EPSY 441.3, GEOG 301.3 (no longer offered), PSY 233.3, STAT 244.3 [prerequisite for (c)]
c. COMM 207.3, PSY 234.3, SOC 240.3
Or
d. ECON 204.6
From the above courses, students are allowed to take a maximum of 6 credit units of introductory statistics subject to conditions (1) to (3) as follows:
- Although STAT 242.3, 245.3 or 246.3 may be used in Distribution requirements 1 to 5 in exceptional cases, no other course listed in (a) to (d) may be used in these distribution requirements. Students must contact the Undergraduate Office for further information.
- PLSC 314.3, STAT 245.3, STAT 246.3 can only be used in Requirement 4 of the new Natural Science Program.
- Transfer credit of junior 3 credit unit STAT will only be considered equivalent to courses listed in Category (b).
It should be noted that STAT 103.3 and STAT 241.3 are courses in probability and are not listed in categories (a) to (d) above. Credit for STATS 103.3 may be received in addition to 3 or 6 credit units in introductory statistics taken from categories (a) to (c) and subject to conditions (1) to (3) above, provided that STAT 103.3 is taken first. Students who complete STAT 103.3 and then complete ECON 204.6, will only receive 3 credit units for ECON 204.6.
Students may complete STAT 103.3 either before, after or concurrently with any course in (b) and will receive credit for both courses.
Students may take STAT 241.3 for credit in addition to STAT 103.3 and/or in addition to 6 credit units in introductory statistics [subject to conditions (1) to (3)], provided that they have completed the prerequisites for STAT 241.3. Students may not take STAT 103.3 for credit concurrently with, or after STAT 241.3.
