Anthropology
Students who plan to major in Anthropology should consult the Undergraduate Advisor concerning their choice of senior Anthropology courses. The Department of Religious Studies & Anthropology offers a B.A. Three-year, Four-year, Honours, Double Honours and Minor in Anthropology.
Effective September, 2005 the undergraduate programs in Anthropology and Archaeology are offered separately. Students in their third or fourth year of an Anthropology and Archaeology program have the option of completing the program as it existed prior to September 2005, of following a new Anthropology program, or of following an Archaeology program.
Anthropology Programs Effective 2005
Students intending to major in anthropology must take ANTH 111.3 and ARCH 112.3. ANTH 111.3 introduces the student to sociocultural and linguistic anthropology, while ARCH 112.3 introduces the student to archaeology and biological anthropology.
Students majoring in Anthropology will select courses from the following lists to fulfill the specified program requirements.

B.A. Four-year Anthropology
Note: No more than 6 credit units from one subject may be used in Requirements B1 to B4.

21 to 27 credit units from Area A. At least 9 credit units from Area A should be at 300-400 levels.

B7 Electives Requirement Courses to complete the requirements for 120 credit unit Four-year program. Of the 120 credit units required at least 66 must be at the 200-level or higher and no more than 60 in one subject.
B.A. Three-year Anthropology

18-21 credit units from Area A. At least 6 credit units from Area A should be at 300-400 levels.
3-6 credit units within Areas B and C.
B7 Electives Requirement
Courses to complete the requirements for 90 credit unit Three-year program. Of the 90 credit units required at least 42 must be at the 200-level or higher and no more than 42 in one subject.
B.A. Honours Anthropology
Note: No more than 6 credit units from one subject may be used in Requirements B1 to B4.

B6 Major Requirements (42 credit units) 30-36 credit units from Area A of which at least 12 credit units must be at 300-400 levels and include at least one of ANTH 421.3, 422.3, or 430.3.
6-12 credit units within Areas B and C of which at least 3 credit units must be in Area B. B7 Electives Requirement Courses to complete the requirements for 120 credit unit Four-year program. Double Honours in Anthropology
Anthropology may be combined in a Double Honours program with other disciplines. The requirements are 36 credit units in the Anthropology program including: ANTH 111.3, ARCH 112.3, 21-27 credit units from Area A with a minimum of 9 credit units at 300-400 level including 3 credit units from ANTH 421.3, 422.3, or 430.3, and 3-9 credit units from within Areas B and C of which at least 3 credit units must be in Area B. It is the student's responsibility to deternine the requirements of the second discipline for the Double Honours degree.
The Department requires that all Honours students consult with the Departmental Undergraduate Advisor in establishing the students' fields of specialization within anthropology because this consideration is important in choosing suitable upper‑level courses within the department and suitable cognate courses offered by other departments.
Minor in Anthropology
The Minor in Anthropology may be completed in conjunction with any Three-year, Four-year or Honours degree in another subject area in the College of Arts & Science. The program requirements are ANTH 111.3 and 18 senior credit units in Area A or ANTH 111.3 and 15 senior credit units from Area A and 3 senior credit units from Areas B or C.
