Campus Recreation Office, in the Physical Activity Complex at 87 Campus Drive.
The main objective of the Campus Recreation program is to provide every student at the U of S with the opportunity to participate in some form of competitive or non-competitive recreational activity on and off campus. Combine this opportunity with the goals of maximum participation, sportsmanship, friendship, fellowship and enjoyment at all levels of skill, and one has an appreciation of the structure and function of this program.
There are a number of men's, women's and co-rec activities in the form of leagues, tournaments, special events or individual pursuits. The activity list includes: a canoe race, football, soccer, curling, hockey, basketball, badminton, floor hockey, volleyball, kayaking, broomball, slo-pitch, scuba diving, innertube water polo, downhill ski/snowboard night, mini-golf, racquetball, squash, and Rec Pack (an individually directed physical activity program). In addition, there are clubs such as karate, kayaking, triathalon, and figure skating. Learn-to clinics are offered for students interested in increasing their knowledge of various sports and activities.
Students at the University of Saskatchewan that have paid the Recreation Fee will obtain access to the Physical Activity Complex for no additional charge. The Physical Activity Complex includes a 14,000 square foot Campus Fit Centre, four Racquetball / Squash / Walleyball courts, a 40 foot 6 route climbing wall (equipment and instruction provided), a 200 meter walk / jog track, day locker access and towel service and other opportunities such as full access to drop-in fitness classes (yoga, aerobics, step aerobics, muscle sculpting, spinning, etc.).
Huskie Athletics
Huskie Athletics is the interuniversity athletic program provided for students from all colleges at the University of Saskatchewan. Huskie Athletics teams compete in the Canada West Region, against fourteen universities from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Teams compete for the opportunity to participate in National Championships hosted by Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).
The Huskie Athletics program currently has fifteen CIS teams. These include men’s football, men's and women's basketball, cross country, hockey, soccer, track and field, volleyball & wrestling. Student athletes are eligible to compete for a maximum of five years if they are in good academic standing as a full time student. Potential student athletes should consult the
Awards Guide, available online, for possible opportunities regarding scholarships and athletic financial awards.
All Huskie Athletics teams conduct open tryouts for University of Saskatchewan students. Students are encouraged to participate in Huskie Athletics as an athlete, manager, trainer, minor official or administrative assistant, many of which are paid positions. All students are welcome to come cheer on the Huskies.
University of Saskatchewan students are admitted FREE of charge to all home Huskie Athletics league games with a valid U of S student card.
