Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Services
The University’s Commitment The University of Saskatchewan values its students and employees and is committed to providing them with a positive environment for working and learning. Discrimination and harassment are prohibited by law and by University Policy and will not be tolerated. The University works to prevent and eliminate these behaviors by offering educational programs and implementing prompt corrective action.
The University’s Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Policy Consistent with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the University’s Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Policy prohibits discrimination and harassment because of: religion, creed, marital status, family status, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age colour, ancestry, nationality, place of origin, race or perceived race, receipt of public assistance, physical size or weight. Our Policy also prohibits personal harassment, which is not covered by legislation.
If You Feel That You Are Being Harassed Don’t ignore the situation and hope that it will go away. Instead, take appropriate action at an early stage to resolve the issue and prevent it from escalating.
- Communicate your Concerns. If you can, tell the offending party that his or her behavior is unwelcome and ask that it stop. This can be done in person or by writing a letter.
- Seek Help. If you feel unable to communicate your concerns directly or, when talking to the other person is not an option or has not been successful, seek help. Contact the Coordinator of Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Services for a consultation, in confidence, or seek assistance from another relevant resource such as the USSU or Student and Enrolment Services.
