As a student at the University of Saskatchewan, you have access to many computer facilities and services. To use them, you need an NSID (network services ID) username, which is a unique identifier in the form of three letters and three numbers (for example, abc123), and password. The NSID is your key to all your computer accounts, and is automatically sent to you in your registration package. If you do not have your NSID please contact the ITS Help Desk (see Getting Help below) or your college's computer support department.
U of S Web Portal PAWSPAWS,
http://paws.usask.ca is your gateway to University services. PAWS contains a variety of web-based tools, including e-mail, calendar and groups, and gives you role-based access to a wide range of information and services such as registration, transcripts, grades, course home pages, library tools, financial information and more. Use your NSID username and password to login to PAWS.
Computer LabsThere are over 1,200 computers available for students around the campus. About 350 of these are available to any registered student. Over 850 additional computers are provided by colleges and departments for the use of their students. Go to
http://studentcomputing.usask.ca and select “Connect” for locations and information about computer labs on campus.
E-mail, File Storage and Web SpaceAs a student at the U of S, you have an e-mail account on the mail.usask.ca server, a file storage account on the folder.usask.ca server, and an account on the homepage.usask.ca web space server. All of these accounts are accessible via PAWS (
http://paws.usask.ca).
Campus-wide PrintingAll students are provided with an account on the Campus-wide Print Account Service (CPAS). CPAS enables you to print on designated printers throughout the campus. The cost for black and white printing is 10 cents per page, and 25 cents per page for colour. There are a number of ways to add funds to your CPAS account. See

Wireless NetworkingStudents with laptop computers can connect to the campus network and the Internet via wireless access points across campus. See

Computer Store and Repair ServiceThe Campus Computer Store, located in lower Place Riel, provides great pricing on hardware and software. Also, Technical Shop Services, located in the lower level of the Education Building, is a full-service hardware repair shop. Check out Laptops 4U at

Internet Service from Home
Students can connect to the Internet through high-speed Internet service available from either Sasktel or Shaw. Both of these high-speed offerings are available to students from the Campus Computer Store at University-negotiated prices.
TrainingThe University provides free online computer training called TeachUS-IT for all students at
http://teachusit.usask.ca. A number of free short courses, seminars and fee-for-service courses are offered throughout the year on a variety of topics; specialized or one-on-one custom training is also available for a fee. Visit

IT SecurityIT Security is all about ensuring your computer is safe and secure. You need to understand and manage the risks associated with using a computer connected to the internet. ITS and Security Services offer free seminars about protecting your computer. Computer Science and ITS offer an online course about IT security awareness. For more information see
