University of the Arctic
The University of Saskatchewan joined the University of the Arctic in 2002. The University of the Arctic is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to higher education in and about the Circumpolar North. UArctic is a decentralized university without walls that mounts programs of higher education and research, builds local and regional educational capacity, and stimulates co-operation among participating institutions. Founded in 2001, it boasts a membership of seventy-two universities, colleges, research institutes and indigenous organizations from Canada, United States, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Russia and Greenland. The International Secretariat is located in Rovaniemi, Finland.
