The Profession of Physical Therapy (Physiotherapy)
Physical Therapy is a health profession dedicated to improving and maintaining physical mobility, independence, health and well-being.
Physical Therapists:
• Diagnose causes of, and potential risks for limitations in body function and physical independence based upon assessment of body systems, as well as personal and environmental factors;
• Develop and implement treatment plans to address potential and presenting limitations with the objectives of prevention, rehabilitation, maintenance and support;
• Educate to improve understanding and self management of conditions or factors causing physical limitations;
• Engage in research, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of physiotherapy practice methods.
Physical Therapists work either as part of a health/wellness team, or autonomously, to provide client focused health care for people of all ages. Physical therapy practice settings include community health centers, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, special care centers, schools, private clinics and clients’ homes.
