English Proficiency
The language of instruction at the University of Saskatchewan is English. Applicants for admission whose first language is not English must present evidence of proficiency in English. The following will be accepted as satisfactory evidence:
1. Three years of full-time attendance in a Canadian high school (or from an institution where English is the language of instruction and examination) including complete secondary level standing and successful completion of English Literature and Composition in each of Grades 10, 11 and 12;
or2. A score of at least: 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or overall 80 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Band 6.5 on the Academic Reading and Writing Modules of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Band 4.5 on the Listening and Reading Sections and at least Band 4.0 on the Writing Section of the Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST), 85 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment score of 60 or higher, or University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) with a grade of C or higher. Test scores must be forwarded directly to
Admissions, Student and Enrolment Services, by the testing centre, to be received no later than the deadline for receipt of applications;
or 3. Successful completion of at least 18 credit units of transferable university-level courses at an institution where English is the official language of instruction and examination;
or 4. Successful completion of Level 50: High Advanced Academic English) offered by the

5. Sucessful completion of Advanced Level (ESL 050) of The University of Regina's Intensive English as a Second Language program plus completion of Academic Writing Elective A.
