Education
Applicants to the Elementary/Middle Years and Secondary options follow the Four-Year Sequential Program, after completing a minimum of 60 credit units of required courses transferable to the B.Ed. degree. They enter the College of Education in Year Three of their programs, and complete Education courses, Student Teaching, and Extended Practicum.
Applicants to the Aboriginal Teacher Education programs, the Practical and Applied Arts (Home Economics and Industrial Arts), and the 5-year combined B.Ed./B.Mus.(Mus.Ed.) programs must apply for direct entry. They enter the College of Education in Year One and complete courses in the Colleges of Education, Arts & Science, and Kinesiology as well as Student Teaching, and Extended Practicum.

Four-Year Sequential Bachelor of Education
Applicants to the Sequential program must submit an application for admission to the Undergraduate Programs Office, College of Education, by the February 15 deadline.
Applicants selected on the basis of their grades will be required to attend an admissions interview.
Applicants applying to the Four-Year Sequential program must have completed at least 60 credit units of external course work which can be transferred to one of the program options (Elementary/Middle or Secondary).
The minimum acceptable Cumulative Weighted Average on the 60 transferable credit units is 60%, although admission to the program will require a higher average. In addition, for secondary option applicants, the average earned on courses included in Teaching Areas I and II must be at least 60%. See the College of Education section of the
Calendar for the listing of Teaching Areas.
The 60 credit units of transferable external course work includes the following:
Elementary or Middle Options: ENG 110.6 or equivalent; and at least 3 credit units in each of mathematics, a natural science (excluding computer science), kinesiology, health, fine arts, native studies and social studies (economics, history, human geography or native studies).
Teaching Area I - at least 18 credit units in a subject commonly taught in Saskatchewan schools (normally 12 credit units at the senior level);
Teaching Area II - at least 12 credit units in a second subject commonly taught in Saskatchewan schools (normally 6 credit units at the senior level).
Secondary Option: ENG 110.6, or 2 of ENG 111.3, 112.3, 113.3 and 114.3, 3 credit units in native studies, and 3 credit units external elective.
Teaching Area I - at least 24 credit units in a subject commonly taught in Saskatchewan schools (normally 18 credit units at the senior level);
Teaching Area II - at least 18 credit units in a second subject commonly taught in Saskatchewan schools (12 credit units at the senior level).
Students are also required to have completed a total of at least 6 credit units in a teachable subject, outside Teaching Areas I and II.
Note: Physical Education cannot be selected as a teaching area in the Secondary option. Applicants who want to be specialized high school Physical Education teachers should enrol in the 5-year combined B.Sc.(Kin.)/B.Ed. degree program. See the College of Kinesiology section of the

Four-Year Concurrent Bachelor of Education
Practical and Applied Arts (Home Economics and Industrial Arts), and ITEP, NORTEP, SUNTEP programs. 1. Regular admission applicants must have complete secondary level standing.
2. Applicants must have the following 30-level or Grade 12 (or equivalent) prerequisite subjects:
- Social Studies 30 or History 30 or Native Studies 30
- A 30-level science*
- An approved 30-level language other than English or a 30-level fine arts*
*Students may be admitted with one deficiency in these subjects. Such deficiency must be cleared before entering the second year of study.
3. A minimum admission average of 70% based on the following criteria:
One of: - English A30
- English B30
- English Language Arts A30
- English Language Arts B30
One of: - Mathematics A30
- Mathematics B30
- Mathematics C30
- Calculus 30
A combination of three 30-level subjects from the following categories:
- Natural Science (maximum of two)
- Social Science or Humanities (maximum of two)
- Fine and Performing Arts (maximum of one) May include a subject from the Saskatchewan Learning approved list of Practical and Applied Arts (or equivalents).
The prerequisites for Teaching Areas in the secondary program are as follows:
- Biology 30 for Biology
- Mathematics B30 and C30 for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics
- Chemistry 30 for Biology and Chemistry
- French 30 or equivalent for French
- Physics 30 for Physics

Combined Degrees
Applicants wishing to pursue the 5-year combined B.Ed./B.Mus.(Mus.Ed.) degree must successfully complete an audition, an interview, and a placement examination with the Department of Music. Contact the Department of Music for details, Tel: 306-966-6171.
Applicants wishing to pursue the 5-year combined B.Ed./B.Sc.(Kin.) must successfully complete three years in the College of Kinesiology and the remaining two years in the College of Education. For further details, see the College of Kinesiology section of the

Technical Vocational Education Program
Applicants to this program must have an acceptable Saskatchewan Journeyperson Certificate or equivalent, or an acceptable Diploma in Technology or Applied Arts from a recognized Technical Institute plus evidence of satisfactory work experience in the field of the teaching major. Students enter the College of Education in Year Two and complete courses in the College of Education, Arts and Science and Kinesiology, as well as Student Teaching and Extended Practicum.
Acceptable Journeyperson's Certificates are: Agricultural Mechanic, Commercial Cook, Electrician, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Automotive Service Technician, Carpentry, Hairstylist, Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic, Machinist, Electronics (formerly Radio and Television Repair).
Acceptable Diplomas in Technology or the Applied Arts are: Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Civil Technology, Drafting Technology, Mechanical and Architectural Technology.
Transfers from Other Colleges and Other Post-Secondary Institutions
Applicants who have completed 18 or more credit units of transferable post-secondary level studies and applying to transfer to programs in Practical and Applied Arts (Home Economics, Industrial Arts or Vocational Education) and the 5-year combined B.Ed./B.Mus.(Mus.Ed.) will be considered if the cumulative average on all transferable courses taken or on the last year(s) average on 18 credit units or more is at least 60% and they meet all other admission requirements. Applicants should note, however, that fulfilling the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
Admitted applicants transferring from another post-secondary institution will receive a transfer credit evaluation, to be viewed on their PAWS Unofficial Academic Transcript
. This evaluation lists any transfer credits granted based on post-secondary work completed at another institution. Applicants are advised to meet with an advisor in the College to determine the transfer credit applicable to the program of studies being undertaken.
Certificate Programs
The certificate programs in Ecological Education, Teaching Heritage Languages and Post Secondary Technical Vocational Education are under review. There will be no intake for these programs in 2008-2009.
Post Degree Certificate in Education: Special Education: Applicants to the program will require a Bachelor of Education Degree (or equivalent) and valid Standard A Teaching Certificate. In addition, applicants will be required to have at least one year of successful classroom teaching experience. Applicants will be expected to have completed at least six credit units of undergraduate courses in Special Education. For details, consult the website:
http://edpsecertificate.usask.ca. Secondary Technical Vocational Education: Applicants to this program must meet the regular admission requirements noted under Technical Vocational Education.
Applicants accepted in this 2-year program may be granted 30 credit units toward their certificate in recognition of their technical qualifications. Students who complete this program may apply to
Saskatchewan Learning for a Provincial Vocational Certificate in their area of training.
