Credit Given for Courses from Other Universities
Students who transfer to the College of Arts & Science from other universities or colleges, or students who wish to take courses elsewhere as visiting students may not obtain credit for all courses. Transfer credits as assessed by
Admissions may not apply within this College. Students are expected to meet with an Academic Advisor prior to registration to determine how the transfer credits may be used toward their programs.
In particular, the following situations apply:
- Courses for which there is no College of Arts & Science equivalent (or near equivalent) may be disallowed.
- A department has the right to require that majors from the department take the department's courses, regardless of whether the student already has credit for a duplicate course from another university. A student who chooses or is required to take a course that is determined to essentially duplicate a course for which transfer credit has been granted will either not be given credit for the new course or will lose the transfer credit. The decision rests with the Undergraduate Office in Arts & Science in consultation with the department involved.
- The Cumulative Weighted Average (C.W.A.) overall and in the major required for promotion and graduation is calculated only on the courses taken at the University of Saskatchewan or under a formal exchange program.
- Students may not repeat for credit, or to raise their average, any transfer courses in which they have already received a passing grade (50% or better).
- Students receiving transfer credit for "unspecified" courses may normally use these credit units to satisfy Requirement 7 only. Usually, these "unspecified" transfer credits are considered as junior-level courses.
- Students assigned credit for a portion of a U of S course, e.g. ½ PSY 110.6, are expected to contact the Undergraduate Office for advice on using such transfer credits towards program requirements or prerequisites.
