Revised Bachelor of Commerce Degree Program - 2006 Curriculum
The Edwards School of Business has implemented a revised Bachelor of Commerce degree program for all new students (direct entry and transfers) as of September 2006. Students returning to the program after an absence of five years or more will be placed under the curriculum requirements in effect on the date that the student is readmitted to the School.
In 2006 and thereafter, upon first admission to the Edwards School of Business, students must complete the degree requirements within a ten (10) year time period. Under exceptional circumstances, the School may grant an extension. The
Calendar material details the new course offerings and the revised program which should be followed by all newly admitted students.
The new curriculum exposes students to important business issues starting in the first year of study. Newly admitted students will have a more integrated first year experience with wider exposure to management concepts in key areas such as organizational behaviour, business communications and decision making. Students entering their third year will specialize in one of seven majors and conclude their fourth year with a business policy and a management skills class.
Bachelor of Commerce Program - 1996 Curriculum
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce program prior to September 2006 will complete the 1996/2001 curriculum. They should refer to the
University Calendar in the year they were admitted to the School for program information. The School will house copies of these
Calendars for students' reference. Transition regulations that apply to students on the
1996/2001 curriculum follow:
- Students on the 1996/2001 curriculum may take COMM 303.3, Government Policy, or COMM 306.3, Decision Making II, to meet their third year core requirement. If the student takes both courses, COMM 306.3 will be used as a free senior elective.
- COMM 301.3, Introduction to Management Accounting for Future Managers and COMM 302.3, Introduction to Management Accounting have been eliminated and replaced by COMM 210.3, Introduction to Management Accounting. All students are expected to take the new accounting course COMM 210.3.
- Students may take COMM 300.3, Business Communication II as a free senior elective subject to space availability. The first offering of this course will be in 2007.
- Students may choose the Management major option (part of the 2006 curriculum), but not all students who are currently in the General Business major would benefit from switching to the Management major. Please contact the Undergraduate & Certificate Programs Office for details.
