Requirements for License to Practice
Students are reminded that a University degree in Medicine does not in itself confer the right to practice medicine. This is granted only by the licensing body of the province in which one intends to practice. In Saskatchewan the licensing body is the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. All students in Medicine are enrolled on the educational registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
The examinations of the Medical Council of Canada, all or in part, will be held separately from the university examination. Part I is held at the end of medical undergraduate training and Part II is held after a minimum of at least 15 months postgraduate training. License requirements vary from province to province but all require at least two year of postgraduate training, with specialty training requiring more.
Further information on licensure requirements in Canada may be obtained from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
